Derivatives

Derivatives are creative works which are derived from other creative works.

Parodies, cover versions, remixes, mashups and fan fics are all derivative works. News and criticism also often contain derivative material.

Derivatives typically use the principles of memetic linkage, memetic hitchhiking and search magnets to attract attention to themselves and propagate.

A creative work that is ripe for creating derivitives from is often referred to as being an exploitable. Next, some examples to illustrate these concepts:
